Imagine’s Holiday Fundraiser 2021

Imagine serves to empower individuals with developmental disabilities through services and advocacy. Our promise to individuals is enduring.

Without your support, that wouldn’t be possible.

This is a unique moment when we rely on you more than we have or will. Through the worst of the pandemic, we relied on our reserves, built primarily through your giving, to maintain the safety of our clients, staff, and community. Next summer, we expect to receive funding increases that will not only make us more sustainable than we have been in years but allow us to raise direct care rates substantially. In between, though, our stressed reserves need to continue protecting our community, provide for an expansion in our service and meet some deferred needs.

Your holiday gift comes to the heart of a period when financial support matters more than ever. Thank you for whatever you can do. The support of our community fuels our work, sustained it through a pandemic and protects it through a challenging winter and spring.

We need your help more than ever this year.

There are many ways to give to Imagine and those contributions help us:

Deliver person-centered services. In 2021, Imagine direct-care staff continued to serve individuals with substitutes for the day programs that are still not back to 100%. Our dedicated staff dealt with quarantines, exposure, and a few directly COVID-impacted clients, individually tailored for comfort and return to health.

Collaborate with like-minded partners. In the past, the collaboration was around community events like our yearly Film Festival and Gathering of Extraordinary People. Through COVID, we have been a resource for smaller agencies on COVID PPE, protocols, policies, and state directives, which were complicated and quickly changing.

Commit to the health and safety of each individual, especially these last 18 months of the pandemic. In February, we hosted a vaccination clinic for clients, many of who are health vulnerable, and for staff providing services. We continue to purchase PPE and cleaning supplies and are leveraging our pandemic experience for stronger ongoing safety and emergency preparation.

Advocate for person-centered policies and services. Imagine participates in policy-making at the state and local levels towards improving access to services, elevating person-centered models, and reducing disparities in accessibility. This year, State COVID protocols and policies evolved to include vaccination and a renewed effort to recognize the compensation gap for essential workers providing direct-care support services.

Please consider a donation before the year’s end, and keep in mind there are many ways you can contribute.

  • Donations –  We welcome any amount that you are able to give.
  • Sustaining Donation –  Support our enduring promise with your own. You can make a sustaining gift with a weekly, monthly, or quarterly contribution, which helps us know we have your support for the long haul.
  • Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs) –  Imagine welcomes gifts made through your DAF. Please send your DAF administrator our tax ID (61-1418745) and mailing address (listed at the end of this message).

Please read what our caregivers said about working at Imagine during the pandemic.

Additionally, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (the “CARES Act”) expanded the deductibility of charitable contributions for 2021. For taxpayers who do not itemize, but instead take a standard deduction, the CARES Act provides an “above the line” charitable deduction of up to $300 for individuals, and $600 for married couples who file joint returns.

This provides a tax benefit for donors making smaller cash gifts that would not otherwise receive a tax benefit. We encourage you to take advantage of this tax benefit and consider increasing your gift this year to Imagine and other nonprofits!

Since our founding in 2002, Imagine has been committed to quality, defined individually for each person we serve and collectively as fully included participants in our community. Imagine Supported Living Services is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization based and operating in Santa Cruz County, California. We promote empowerment in our clients’ homes and inclusivity in our community.
